Students at All Hallows Catholic High School are masters of their own success with Eedi.

Suzanne Walsh, Head of Numeracy at All Hallows Catholic High School, shares how the platform empowers her students to be independent learners and take ownership over their learning, alleviates departmental workload, and creates opportunities for individualised support to the pupils who need it the most.

Here’s how teachers at All Hallows Catholic High School have so far used Eedi to provide over 186 hours of extra learning time since September using Eedi’s powerful lesson interventions to help their students resolve over 93% of their misconceptions.

“It’s brilliant, I started a group on a Wednesday night, for anyone who we needed to focus on more, for example our Pupil Premium group. Eedi has that flexibility so that we can have them all in one room, all of different levels, and I can set them all different work on the areas that they need to focus on, or they can find it themselves. Again, I really try to encourage them to dictate their own success! So many of these pupils should be getting a nine but they are working at a seven and there is nothing there to stretch them. Eedi is brilliant at that."

Empowering students as masters of their own success

“I very much like the way Eedi encourages independence. That’s something we’re really trying to hone in on as a school. You’d think that after Covid we’d see an improvement in independent learning but it’s difficult to not spoon feed your pupils sometimes! I really like that it gives them that independence to get on with the work.”

“The kids have control over their own learning, they can choose how far they take their learning. It allows them to decide when they want to be challenged, or if they want to stop there once they’ve resolved a misconception. They can decide if they want more practice or if they don’t. It’s a great feature.”

With abundant support and an open-ended structure, Eedi encourages students to take charge of their learning, promoting independent study and fostering a sense of ownership over their academic growth.

“Eedi helps to really quickly identify misconceptions and address them straight away. With the old school methods of marking and assessment, you might see the kids for another three days after they’ve completed the work you set. By then it’s been and gone! They’ve forgotten why they even did it, forgotten why they wrote that answer. Whereas Eedi is immediate support, on the spot. Instantly putting students on the right track and pushing them further. It’s all encompassed into one, it identifies, checks and addresses problems instantly. It’s really a powerful tool.”

All Hallows Catholic High School is committed to encouraging independent learning among its students. Eedi provides the ideal platform for students to take ownership of their education, making their own decisions regarding the depth and pace of their learning. Through Eedi, students gain the confidence and autonomy necessary to thrive.

“It’s that phrase I’ll keep using that they are masters of their own success with Eedi.”

Empowering teachers to focus on individualised support

Eedi has proven to be a game-changer for teachers at the school, reducing their workload significantly. With interventions built into the platform for on-the-spot support, instant feedback and automated assessment, teachers at All Hallows Catholic High School save valuable classroom, planning and marking time. This enables them to dedicate more one-on-one attention to students, providing personalised support and guidance.

“Within a 50 minute lesson, I can have 5 minutes with 10 individual students because Eedi is dealing with the rest. That’s amazing, right?”

“It reduces workload for us all. If you think about it, one lesson a week you use Eedi, you’re not having to plan for that lesson at all, it’s all there for you. You get instant feedback, and the kids get instant feedback. So within one lesson, you’ve done no real planning, you’ve got no marking to do, your students are learning and filling knowledge gaps and you’ve got feedback on remaining knowledge gaps. So in terms of workload, it’s brilliant, just once a week is enough to give you back that crucial time.”

Enhanced collaboration and classroom discussions

Eedi acts as a supportive companion, leading to a classroom environment where students rely on themselves and each other for support and the teacher as a last resort.

“The fact that they complete it together in a computer room leads to natural classroom discussions. They lean over each other’s screens, but not because they’re copying their friends' work. They actually have more discussions together over the answers. They’re relying on me less, they don’t feel like I’m watching them all the time. It’s like Eedi has their back and they come to me as a last resort. It lends itself to students working together, because they can just get on with it.”

Harnessing instant data to enhance teaching strategies and plan effectively

“I love that you can see the common misconceptions of an entire year group at once, we can look at issues within the entire cohort.”

“For me as a teacher, and the fact I’m Head of Department, it’s really great for me to look at overall knowledge gaps across the entire cohort. It helps me to plan with my department. It helps me to understand whether we need to alter our scheme of work a little bit, because we’re noticing big gaps in certain areas. We use it to predict things a little bit more.”

Eedi equips teachers with valuable insights into students' knowledge gaps, enabling more effective planning and targeted instruction. By identifying common misconceptions across the entire cohort, teachers at All Hallows Catholic High School gain a comprehensive understanding of areas that require additional focus, enabling them to refine their teaching strategies, align as a department and optimise student outcomes.

“The fact you can see instantly what’s happening with your pupils as well, you can see if there are kids who are still not getting concepts. But the amount that aren’t getting it is so much lower than normal, because of the independent learning side of Eedi. Now it’s like, I see 3 pupils of aren’t getting a concept, as opposed to a group of 10. At that point, you’ve already won! So it does really reduce your workload in that sense too.”

“Eedi really helps us to signpost what we need to teach ahead of exams.”

Flexibility and differentiation

“Every week, every year group goes into a computer room to do Eedi once a week. I set the quizzes based on what’s coming up in our scheme of work. I choose what I set based on what we are discussing in our meetings as a department, skills that we think are limiting progress, where we feel there are gaps, particularly from COVID.”

Eedi's flexibility enables All Hallows Catholic High School to cater to the diverse needs of its students. The platform allows teachers to differentiate instruction by assigning specific tasks to individuals or groups, based on Eedi’s powerful analytics, ensuring that every student receives the support and challenge they require to unlock their full potential.

Eedi is brilliant at that.”
